PhD Research

My research focuses on literature on “comfort women” in Korean and English. Though a plethora of studies on novels in English exists, not many academic works exist on Korean novels that address issues on "Japanese military sexual slavery." Korean American writers who composed works on “comfort women” attracted more attention from scholars and readers than Korean novelists. I have limited my scope on comparison of these particular literary groups because they share many similarities and differences. Moreover, Korean novels on “comfort women” are not yet recognised as a genre literature. My interest lies in understanding how nationalism, ethnicity, and feminism are deeply embedded in the creation process of these literature.
