- What is the relationship between immigration controls, labour market structures and experiences of precarity in different spheres of the lives of migrant workers in the cleaning and agricultural sectors in the UK? (working title)
- Year of Study:
My doctoral research investigates the relationship between immigration status, labour market structures and working conditions on migrant workers’ daily experiences of precarity, focusing on London’s cleaning sector. It analyses how ongoing developments in the economy and the British labour market affect the cleaning sector, modelling common business models and HR practices, and structuring migrant cleaners’ working conditions. Whilst exploring migrant cleaners’ experiences, I adopt a holistic understanding of precarity, looking at how immigration and labour market experiences structure migrant cleaners’ different spheres of life, including their housing situation, their family life, as well as their physical and mental health.
