Xu Peng is a PhD candidate at the Centre for International Studies and Diplomacy (CISD). Her research interests include rebel governance, borderland dynamics, and China-Myanmar relations. The working title of her PhD project is "Rebel governance in Myanmar: the comparison study between Wa and Kokang". She holds an MSc in Development Studies from LSE, and a Bachelor's degree in Public Diplomacy from Jilin University, China, before joining SOAS.
Xu Peng's research examines how sub-state groups take advantage of international state pressure to establish their influence in the borderlands, with a particular focus on ethnic armed groups in Myanmar's borderlands with China. Political sociology and anthropology are integrated into this research.
