Biography

Amy Parsons is a teacher of Bengali language and a literary translator of Bengali to English.

Amy gained her MA in Bengali from SOAS in 2017, during which she focused on the translation of the Bengali short story, and also holds a BA in English Literature and Sociology from Newcastle University. Her specialisms include narratives of the Bangladesh Liberation War, the life and work of Jibanananda Das, and relations between Portuguese and Bengali- as well as Bengal, she has a keen interest in the Lusophone world and the European Portuguese language. 

Amy has been a Teaching Fellow in Bengali at SOAS since 2021, and since 2018 has also held the post of Bengali teacher at the SOAS Language Centre.
