Biography

Chandni Dwarkasing is a Lecturer in Economics at SOAS University of London. Given her BSc and MSc in Environmental and Sustainability sciences, she considers herself to be a transdisciplinary economist after completing her PhD in Economics at the Tuscan Universities of Siena, Pisa and Florence.

Her current research regards the intersection between working conditions, consumption patterns and socio-ecological reproduction. In doing so, she draws on classical theories of production, the metabolic rift theory and world-ecology. Her on-going research on this topic aims to empirically investigate the relationship between individual carbon footprints, income and working conditions.

Chandni’s work also regards the social outcomes of low-carbon transition policies and her meta-literature review on this topic has been published in Energy Research and Social Sciences. In addition, her work assesses the macroeconomic consequences of low-carbon transition policies in the Global North for countries in the Global South. Other research interests include computational analyses, history of economic thought and the interpretation of gender and time-use in macroeconomic simulation models.
