Ayesha Omar is a Senior Lecturer in political theory in the Department of Political Studies at the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) and a Mellon Early Career Scholars Fellow. She works in the area of comparative political theory, with a focus on Islamic and African political thought and South African black intellectual history. She has published various articles and book chapters on these topics. She is currently working on her monograph, which deals with political authority in Islam. In 2019 she was awarded the Mail and Guardian Top 200 Young South Africans Award.
