Biography
Elizabeth has been a member of the Governing Body of SOAS since 2003 and is now its Vice-Chair. She has worked in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, including a period as a Second Secretary in the British Embassy in Beijing. Following that she worked for the Great Britain-China Centre, firstly as Deputy-Director and then for eight years as Director. From 1984–2003 she worked for the BBC World Service in a range of jobs, which included running the Chinese Service and working as an editor on English Current Affairs. For the final nine years at the World Service, she was Head of the Asia and Pacific Region. In late 2003, Elizabeth set up the China Policy Institute at Nottingham University. She is currently Chair of its Advisory Board. She has a degree in Chinese and an MA Areas Studies (Chinese Politics and History) from SOAS.
