GCC/GVC analysis has been instrumental to our understanding of how firms and nations are incorporated into the global production and trade structure. In developing countries, governance structures in place are said to be determined by the strategies of lead firms and domestic conditions. However, due to the GCC/GVC frameworks limited concept of institutions, it is unable to satisfactorily examine the role of these domestic conditions.

This research, using institutional economic analysis, seeks to examine the role of domestic conditions in the evolution of the Ghanaian pineapple sector.
