Thesis title:
A Sociological Approach to Investigating Stylistic Features of Chinese Martial Arts Novels Translated by Nor Nopparat
Internal Supervisors

PhD Research

This research project will focus on the analysis of the stylistic features of the Thai translator Nor Nopparat who translated Chinese martial arts novels into Thai. The language used in translating martial arts novels into Thai has its own characteristics which differ from translations of other types of novels. When reading in the genre an audience will usually be able to recognise that these stylistic features, wording and phrasing, and idiomatic expressions are characteristic of martial arts novels and, through translation, have entered the canon. This study therefore aims to examine how the style affected the creation of this particular genre of Chinese literary translation in the Thai language, how changes in Thai society affected his style, and what make his style unique and acceptable or unacceptable in Thai society.
