Thesis title:
Discontent and Decolonisation after World War II: The Case of the Royal Indian Navy Mutiny
Internal Supervisors

PhD Research

The study will focus on the relation between three factors: the effects of war (like inflation and famine), the prevailing social unrest and the process of decolonisation. One of the main contentions is that the social unrest in the cities and the countryside produced by the economic and political conditions of the war created pressures on both the British colonial power as well as on the nationalist leadership, which saw a kind of denouement in the mutiny of the fleet of the Royal Indian Navy.

I am interested in history from below, and forms of political mobilisation in colonial India, but with a wider global perspective on crises and movements.
