My PhD research examines the long-run history of public health and disease control in northern Ghana - from the outset of colonial rule in the region, across the independence transition, and on to the end of the 20th century. Its sources have been assesed for what they reveal about the social history of medicine and technology in the region, and about the political economy of public health. The project uses archival holdings from northern and southern Ghana, from the archives of the World Health Organisation, and articles published in medical and scientific journals over the century. It also makes use of interview testimonies from approximately 550 participants in northern Ghana.
