Professor Koo Yew Lie

Koo Yew Lie was Professor of language, culture and literacy in multilingual contexts (now retired) at the School of Language Studies and Linguistics, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. She received a Bachelor’s degree in Humanities with Education from University Sains Malaysia (USM), an M.A in Linguistics and English Language Teaching from the University of Leeds, and a Ph. D in Education (Applied Linguistics) from the Institute of Education, University of London. She has taught, researched and published in the area of applied linguistics and literacy in language education, Global English in schooling and higher education, cultural politics and knowledge production, language and literacy education in multilingual/cultural contexts and in the area of higher education with a special interest in Malaysia and ASEAN countries. She is now Honorary Professorial Associate, Faculty of Languages and Cultures, SOAS, University Of London, Adjunct Professor, School of Education, Faculty of Law, Education, Business & Arts, Charles Darwin University Australia and Associate Research Fellow, Institut Penyelidikan Pendidikan Tinggi Negara/National Higher Education Research Institute, USM Malaysia.
