PhD Research

Nadia obtained her BA Degree in Linguistics from SOAS in July 2013. She proceeded to read for a Master’s Degree in Language Documentation and Description at SOAS in the academic year 2013/14, with the help from the Santander Taught Master's Scholarship. During this time Nadia became interested in the research area of Information Structure and, more specifically, the Information Structure of the Kazakh language, which has not yet been examined.
In September 2014 Nadia enrolled on the PhD Linguistics programme, having been sponsored by the Wolfson Postgraduate Scholarship in the Humanities. She is working on producing the first description of the Information Structure and its relation to Syntax in the Kazakh language. This research will be based on samples from natural speech, elicited examples, and corpus-extracted data.
