Serena's research project has theoretical and empirical, as well as political and economic, ambitions. Econometrics, macroeconomics, institutional and rational choice theory are combined to explore how economic policy is drawing interstate political order. As part of her research project, Serena is currently working on two papers. The first one presents a non-traditional theoretical framework for assessing an asymmetric monetary association (such as currency substitution) from the point of view of the country that gives up its monetary sovereignty to its political rival; while in the second paper she develops a multi-player Bayesian game with short and long term effects of an incumbent regime's responses to its challenger, with the purpose of deriving conditions that allow multilateral cooperation on the Pareto frontier. The explanatory power of these works is tested through the Israeli-Palestinian case study.
