Christine Wise is Assistant Director (Research Library Services), Library Services , SOAS, University of London, having joined in February 2015. Previously she worked at Senate House Library, with responsibility for historic and rare collections including early printed books, archives and manuscripts including the University of London Archive, historic printed maps, the University of London Artworks Collection, and for the conservation service.
Christine has a first degree in English from the University of Durham, a postgraduate Diploma in Library and Information Studies from The Queen’s University of Belfast, and an MA by Research in Modern British Women’s History from London Guildhall University. She maintains a research interest in British women’s organisations in the Second World War. She is a Chartered Librarian and a Chartered Manager.
She started her professional career at The British Library, in the Bibliographic Services Division in legal deposit cataloguing, before moving to the Science Reference and Information Service as Marketing and Public Relations Manager. In 1994 she moved to The Fawcett Library, as Fawcett Development Librarian, becoming latterly Librarian of The Women’s Library, before moving to Senate House Library in August 2001. Christine is a member of several national groups such as the RLUK Special Collections Leadership Network, and chairs the Jisc Collaborative Collections Management Community Advisory Board. She is also co-convenor of the RLUK Associate Directors' Network
