Enroling nowforour April-July term 2023, with courses starting 24 April. Please be aware that places are first come first served. Enrolments are taken until the course is fully booked, or up to midnight 11 April, whichever is soonest. Please see our timetables for all courses scheduled.
Enrolment opens 6-8 weeks before the start of each term, once we have published the timetables on our term enrolment. You are strongly recommended to apply as early as possible as places are first come first served.
Generally, our 10-week short courses take place on weekday evenings, between 6:00pm and 9:00pm, or on weekends, between 10:00am and 1:30pm. Our Summer intensive courses can take place during the daytime or evening.
Yes, we welcome members of the public as well as SOAS students. You do not need to be a SOAS student to join our courses.

Yes, you can. Our online courses mean you can study from anywhere with a good internet connection. Please check our learner support prior to enroling on an online course.
The Language Centre is a department of SOAS University of London, so you must be at least 18.
No. Only those who have enrolled are allowed to attend our classes.
This is only possible with tailored tuition course arrangements as scheduled short courses run according to the published timetable. Students are only allowed to attend the classes for the course they are enrolled on.
It is not usually possible to join a class late, but you may contact the administrator to see if an exception can be made. There are no waiting lists as such, but you may ask them to contact you if there are places available in the next course to be offered.
Although not accredited, a Certificate of Attendance can be provided upon request for our short courses. A minimum of 60% attendance is required.
You may pay in 3 ways. The majority of payments are made via our online store. You may also pay by bank transfer or an invoice can be raised for corporate sponsored students as per our terms and conditions. Please contact the administrator should you require any further information. If you have had an assessment for a higher level course or if you are eligible for a discount, the Online Store payment link will be emailed to you directly by the Administrator. Discounted links should be requested as outlined on course fees.
No. All course fees must be paid in full upon enrolment.

This is not possible. We ask all applicants to make informed decisions before applying for a course. In fairness to everyone, the terms and conditions apply to all.
This may be possible, but you will need to contact the administrator to check. Please note that the fee difference as per our terms and conditions will apply. For cases where students need to move to an alternative course with a higher fee, the course fee difference will be due in order to confirm enrolment on the new course. For cases where the fee is lower than the one paid, the difference can only be refunded or credited to the next term if requestedat least 14 working days before the start of the course.
Yes. E-mail is the primary form of communication at SOAS Language Centre.
Teacher information is normally provided 5 days prior to the course start date.
No, studentsare not permitted to switch back and forth between online and on campus courses throughout the term. The mode of study students select must be fixed for the term.
There is no formal examination, but there may be progress tests during the course.
