Student social action fund

Social action fund programme

Social Action is people coming together to help improve lives and work to fix the problems in their communities. It can include volunteering, donating or fundraising, community action or simple acts of kindness.

SOAS is partnering with local community organisations to work together and deliver bespoke educational activities; and with our Social Action Fund programme, we want our students to get involved and for you to use your skills and local knowledge to be the driving force of change in your community.

Through the combined commitment and skills of people, social action can empower communities, support those in need, and complement public services. Social Action can also increase wellbeing and improve your confidence and skills.

Deliver your own social action project

If you're passionate about making a difference in your community and have a great idea for a project, you could apply for a Social Action Grant and receive up to £250 as an individual, or £500 as a group.

You will have regular meetings with our Community Engagement officer to support and guide you, ensuring that everything runs smoothly and your project is a success.

As well as making a lasting impact, you will also gain valuable project management experience and your social action project could really take off and turn into something that supports your community and inspires others to do the same.

Criteria

  • must be a current student
  • must aim to address at least one of our Access and Participation Plan (PDF) targets
  • must be targeted towards your local community, a community group, or partner.
