Applying to SOAS

Applications are considered on the standard academic criteria, regardless of any disability.

The School has an Admissions Policy (UG) (pdf; 61kb) and Admissions Policy (PG) (pdf; 55kb) which are on the SOAS website.

We do recommend that you contact the Disability and Neurodiversity Team on disabilities@soas.ac.uk before submitting your application so that any potential adjustments can be discussed and so that you can decide if SOAS is suitable for you. We will do all that we can to make it possible for you to study at SOAS but in the unlikely event that we are not able to make the adjustments necessary we will let you know as soon as possible.

Before you arrive

All students

If you have any medical evidence or reports from educational psychologists, you will need to provide these if you want the school to make any adjustments for you e.g. extra time in exams.

If you know you need support and adjustments that may take some time to arrange, aim to contact us in good time before you arrive.

Home students

The Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA) provides funding for equipment, non-medical helpers and extra costs that are incurred as a result of course attendance.

The DSA is only available to undergraduate students who are personally eligible for the Student Loan and for postgraduate students who pay home fees. For full details see Funding and the DSA.

If you have already filled in a student loan application form but haven't received any information about the DSA from your funding body (Student Finance England, Student Finance Wales, Student Finance Northern Ireland or Student Awards Agency Scotland) OR if you have not yet indicated to them that you have a disability, it would be really useful if you contact them as soon as possible so that your support can be in place early in the new academic year. Get more information and DSA application forms.

The Disability and Neurodiversity Team at SOAS can send you an application form if you prefer. The DSA can make a positive difference to your university experience, so do consider applying for it as soon as possible. The process can take time (sometimes up to 3 months) so don't delay.

International students

International students are not eligible for the DSA, however SOAS will aim to provide all the support and adjustments for you that we can.
