My experience on the Academic Summer School has renewed my passion to pursue my dreams, inspiring me to want to do more for my community. It has inspired me to be proactive about the world that I would like to see. Attending the Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals course and the rest of the Academic Summer School has enlightened my understanding of the words and inspired me to want to live them out. It has been instrumental in thinking about the career I want in public health. I loved the differences that all the people that I met and interacted with had and the common ground that brings us together. I appreciated the diversity and how I feel that I have grown in understanding the world around me and the different approaches to life. I can say that it has been important for my personal development.

To all potential applicants of the SOAS Academic Summer School, my experience on the program was that I was seen, heard, valued and understood. That what I said mattered and you not only learn from the lecturers, but also from the entire class. I believe that it can be the experience for everyone. Think about what you would like to get out of your time on the Academic Summer School because it is what you make it. Be open to learning about so much more than just the academic aspect because I believe that you learn about yourself as well. It will be one of the best experiences you will ever have, just as it was mine.
