Documentary Introduction

What's it like being Taiwanese in a quaint Mexican 'magical town'? What drives young Taiwanese women to set down roots in such a unique place with such a different culture? How do they assimilate into the host society, what impact are they having, and how are they perceived by local indigenous Mexicans and fellow foreigners?

These are questions posed and addressed in this mini-documentary. Three trailblazing Taiwanese women entrepreneurs break the mould a world away from their home country and share their stories.

Director's Bio

Sally Jensen Cusicahua is a peripatetic freelance journalist, illustrator, activist, tour guide, workshop facilitator, mountaineer, vegan baker and general factotum. She was on a working holiday in Taiwan (which she highly recommends) when the pandemic hit and is consequently impatient to return for good. She is particularly interested in diaspora and cross-cultural stories, as well as indigenous rights and climate and social justice. This is the first film she has ever made - the moment was too special to pass.
