Chung Chuan was born in Taiwan in 1979. He began his career in advertising in China in 2000. He was an Associate Art Director of Ogilvy One Interactive and Art Director of Y&R Wunderman China. He has won advertising awards from the New York Festival and the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival. In 2003, Chung Chuan began his studies in documentary at the Beijing Film School. He was the recipient of a 2005 scholarship from Taiwan’s Cloud Gate Dance Theatre and received his masters in 2006.
His 2006 film, “The Affair of Three Cities” was shot in Taipei, Beijing, and Tokyo. It was screened at the Taiwan International Documentary Festival. He was invited by China Central Newsreel & Documentary as a member of The Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of 2008 Olympiad and worked on the official documentary, “Dream Weavers 2008”. In 2009, he completed “The Chai-Wan Matchup”.
The three cities Taipei, Beijing and Tokyo have been related by their past, their present, and may also by their future.
The story begins in the summer of 2004, when the director recorded two baseball games in two cities across the Taiwan Strait. What is interesting is that the two teams both confronted the Japanese team. Though the results of the game were the same, the attitudes of them were totally different. In this documentary, the technique of comparison is used to present the problems between the two sides of the Straits. Also in this film, vagueness is presented in different times and spaces, and the story that unfolded in Tokyo gave witnesses to all the past conflicts.
Although the event is open to the public and free to all it is recommended that you contact Niki Alsford (firstname.lastname@example.org) if you plan to attend.
