Dr. Brian Durrans is Deputy Keeper, Dept. of Ethnography, The British Museum, in London. He received his PhD in Anthropology from University College, London and joined The British Museum in 1976. He is a Fellow of the Royal Asiatic Society, Founder Member of the Public Monuments & Sculpture Association, and a member of the European Ethnographic Museums Directors’ Group. His recently curated exhibitions include ‘Miao Costumes from South-West China,' 'Stairways to the Sky: Rice and Life in the Philippines,' and 'Traffic Art: Rickshaw Paintings from Bangladesh'. His scholarly interests cover material culture, collecting and ethnography, and he contributes regularly to journals and edited volumes on these topics. For the Tribal Transitions Project, he is advisor on material culture and museum collections.
