Dr. Sarit Chaudhuri is Senior Lecturer in the Department of Tribal Studies, Arunachal University, India. He wrote his doctoral dissertation on religious change among the Miji tribe in Arunachal Pradesh and joined the faculty of Arunachal University in 1995. Before that he was for several years a Research Fellow in the Anthropological Survey of India, during which time he completed several research projects on tribal culture in northeast India. He was a recipient of a University Grants Commision Fellowship, and currently holds another Fellowship for a project on innovation and tradition in wood-carving by the Wanchos of Arunachal Pradesh. His recent publications include Indigenous Beliefs And Practices Of The Tribes Of Arunachal Pradesh (1998) and Ethnomedicine of the tribes of Arunachal Pradesh (2001), both of which he edited. Two more edited volumes (Indigenous Knowledge Systems In North-East India; Oral Literature Among Tribes In North-East India) are forthcoming. In the Tribal Transitions Project, Dr. Chaudhuri is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow, conducting both fieldwork and library research.
