T.B. Subba is Professor of Anthropology and Dean, School of Human and Environmental Sciences, North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong, India. His area of research is the eastern Himalayan region, which he has studied as a University Grants Commission Doctoral Fellow and later as Lecturer with the Centre for Himalayan Studies at the University of North Bengal, and as a Homi Bhabha Fellow from 1992 to 1994. His research interests include refugee studies, ethnicity, development, nationalism, and cultural studies. Prof. Subba's publications include: The Quiet Hills: A Study of Agrarian Relations in Darjeeling; Dynamics of a Hill Society: The Nepalis in Darjeeling and Sikkim Himalayas; Flight and Adaptation: Tibetan Refugees in the Darjeeling-Sikkim Himalayas; Ethnicity, State and Development: Case Study of Gorkhaland Movement in Darjeeling; Politics of Culture: A Study of Three Kirata Communities in the Eastern Himalayas. Prof. Subba is the external advisor to the Tribal Transitions Project.
