Interrogative or question words: -phi 'where, which', -ni 'what', ubani 'who or whom', -elani 'why', -njani’ 'how', nini 'when', ngakanani/kangakanani 'to what extend, as big as what?'

Conjunctions: kodwa ' but', ngoba 'because', noma 'or', futhi ' and/also'

    Ekuseni umama ushayele udokotela ucingo ngoba ufuna ukuya kudokotela. Udadewethu omncane uyagula. Unomkhuhlane futhi ushisa kakhulu. Udokotela uthe angafika ngo-10. Umama noma ubaba bazomisa kudokotela. Mina nobhuti sizosala ekhaya ngoba sinomsebenzi wesikolo. Bazohamba ngemoto kababa.

    Udokotela uzombuza umama imibuzo eminingi. Umama uzomsabela futhi uzomcazela udokotela konke. Ngicabanga ukuthi mhlawumbe udokotela uzojova udadewethu bese uzokhala kakhulu. Umama uzombuza: “Ukhalelani?” Usisi uzothi: “Ngiyamesaba udokotela futhi angifuni ukujovwa!” Umama uzothi: “Thula-ke, ungakhali. Uma siqeda lapha kudokotela sizoya esitolo. Esitolo ngifuna ungitshele ukuthi ufuna maphi amaswidi kodwa ngizobathengela udadewenu nomfowenu futhi.

    Bathi befika kudokotela, bangena. Umama uthe: “Sawubona Dokotela.” Umntwana wami uyagula.” Udokotela uthe: “Unani?” Umama uthe: “Unomkhuhlane futhi ushisa kakhulu.” Udokotela umphophole usisi, wesaba kakhulu. Athi ekhala, umama umthulise. Udokotela umnike umuthi kodwa akazange amjove.

    Esitolo bathenge isinkwa, nobisi, nezithelo nemifino namaswidi amaningi bese babuyela ekhaya. Thina sijabule kakhulu ngesikhathi sibone amaswidi amaningi.
