By the late 1990s, concern was growing about the sustainability of intensive groundwater abstraction for irrigated agriculture and urban water-supply in the rapidly-developing economies of Asia, the Middle East and Latin America. This seminar will focus on a decade of experience of the GW-MATe (Groundwater Management Advisory Team) of the World Bank and Global Water Partnership in a major effort to work with national and state governments around the world to confront this issue.
