Before you arrive: Checklist

  • Complete the online registration – for guidance, watch our short enrolment video. You will receive an email with your login details as soon as the system is available.
  • Make sure you have applied for tuition fee and maintenance funding from your appropriate UK government funding body-Student Finance England/Wales/Northern Ireland
  • If you are bringing family members to live with you, check childcare options and schools
  • Plan your budget
  • Check the start date stated in your offer of admission and ensure you will be ready to begin your studies on this date
  • Check the Welcome Week programme to see which orientation events are relevant to you
  • Bring your original Passport or Visa – if you are an EU National, other forms of Photo-ID may be accepted and you will be told of these when you are emailed with the enrolment details
  • Check what personal insurance you need to buy e.g. contents, bike, medical
  • Where applicable, remember to buy travel insurance
  • Bring at least three month’s supply of any prescribed medication and a letter from your doctor explaining what it is for.
  • If you are coming from overseas then we will not have access to your previous medical history. If you have an on-going medical condition you should bring details of your condition with you.
  • If you have a disability, please contact our Disability Office as soon as possible
  • Bring any required financial information (e.g. personal bank statements showing funds available)
  • Familiarise yourself with the Student sections of the SOAS website to understand what support services are available to you and which you want to see during Welcome Week
  • Check your accommodation move-in date, and make plans for your move accordingly
  • Register with a Doctor. If you are living away from home, it is important to register with a local Doctor as soon as you arrive in London.
  • Get a free meningitis vaccination (recommended)
  • Register and attend an Enough is Enough Consent Workshop

International students

  • Read the information for international students about visas, police registration, etc.
  • Apply for a visa (if you need to)
  • Check if you are required to pay the immigration health surcharge. If not, please make other health insurance arrangements
  • Make photocopies of your passport
  • Bring original copies of your examination certificates/transcripts with you in your hand luggage as they may be checked on your arrival to the UK
