SOAS is organising an Economics enrichment day in partnership with the Royal Economics Society. The day is aimed at students in Year 12 who are interested in finding out more about Economics both at university and beyond. It is open to all students in Year 12 and you do not need to either be studying Economics or have previous experience of studying Economics to participate. You will hear from leading academics, people working in different sectors having studied Economics and have a chance to meet current Economics students. The draft programme for the day is as follows:

9.30am - 10.00am Registration
10.00am - 10.05am Welcome and Introduction
10.05am - 11.30am  Workshop - "What is Economics"
11.30am - 11.45am Break 
11.45am - 1.00pm Panel - "What do Economists do all day?"
1.00pm - 2.00pm Lunch (including optional campus tour)
2.00pm - 3.30pm Interactive Lecture - "Pandemic Economics"
3.30pm - 4.00pm Closing Remarks and Evaluation
4.00pm Close

Students who meet at least one of the following criteria will be prioritised:

  • First generation in family to attend university in the UK
  • Eligible or previously eligible for free school meals
  • Experience of local authority care
  • From an area of low progression to higher education (as measured by Polar 4 data)

We will be able to cover the travel expenses (train tickets) for students who live outside the London oyster card zone.
