We are pleased to announce that SOAS World Languages Institute will be partnering with Native Spirit Foundation for the Opening Night of the 13th Native Spirit Festival which will take place on the evening of Saturday 12 October at the Brunei Gallery, SOAS.

Native Spirit Festival are event participants of UNESCO’s International Year of Indigenous Languages (IYIL2019), promoting Indigenous language films, raising awareness to benefit peoples who speak these languages, and to appreciate the important contribution Indigenous Peoples make to our world’s rich cultural diversity. 

In collaboration with the Philippines Embassy and SOAS Philippine Studies, we present:

K'NA THE DREAMWEAVER

When K'na, a young T'boli woman, becomes a dreamweaver, she has the chance to weave together her village's warring clans. But, will she give up true love to do so? This period piece about the Tbolis of South Cotabato in the Philippines was written and directed by Ida Anita del Mundo.


Native Spirit Festival is the UK’s first and only independent annual festival of films, talks and performances celebrating Native cultural heritage, showcasing Indigenous Cinema, Media Makers and Artists. Native Spirit collaborates with Outreach events throughout the year and supports 13 Moons screenings in partnership with SOAS Native Spirit Film Society.

Native Spirit Foundation is a non-profit, Volunteer-run organisation founded by Mapuche leader Freddy Treuquil. Native Spirit Foundation promotes education and the protection of the rights of Indigenous peoples. Native Spirit works to advance education for the public benefit in the United Kingdom and worldwide in the art, culture and heritage of the Indigenous peoples of the Americas and elsewhere.
