Biography

Dr Chase Foster is Lecturer of Public Policy and Management at SOAS, University of London.

Dr Foster received his degree in Public Policy and African Studies at the University of North Carolina (USA). He received his Master in Public Policy and PhD degrees from Harvard University (USA). Previously, he held academic posts at the Munich School of Public Policy at the Technical University of Munich, the Watson Institute for International & Public Affairs at Brown University, and the London School of Economics and Political Science.

Dr. Foster’s work concerns the role of the state in capitalist political economies, especially how courts and legal systems structure regulatory paradigms and enforcement, the relationship between the law and the organization of capitalism, and the regulatory roots of contemporary inequality. An expert in the comparative political economy of market regulation, he has published in internationally recognised academic journals, including the Socio-Economic Review, Regulation & Governance, European Union Politics, and Public Administration.

His current book manuscript, Trust on Trial: Competition Law, Coordination Rights, and Varieties of Capitalism comparatively examines the durable ways that competition law and policy shaped the development of capitalism in Europe and the United States across the long 20th century. Dr. Foster has extensive experience working as a policy practitioner in both domestic and international contexts, and remains an active participant in contemporary public policy debates.
