What to expect from a SOAS Open Day

Open days are a great way to get a feel for a university.

Maybe you’re embarking on your first degree as an undergraduate, or maybe you’re thinking of pursuing further education and doing a postgraduate degree. Either way, choosing a university is a big decision. Attending a SOAS Open Day gives you all the information you need to decide if SOAS is the right place for you.

Here’s what you can expect from one of our open days.

Meet your future lecturers

During the open day, we’ll have lecturers and academics across all subject areas on hand to answer any questions you may have. It’s a great way to learn more about what you might study during your time at SOAS. If you’re undecided about which course you want to study, chatting with a lecturer may help you make that final decision.

Chat with current students

Our team of Student Ambassadors will be available throughout the day if you want to chat about what life at SOAS is really like. They’re the best people to talk to if you want first-hand experience from people studying and living at SOAS. You’ll see them dotted around campus throughout the day wearing purple bibs.

Explore campus

During the day we’ll be hosting tours of our Central London campus. Our Student Ambassadors will take you around campus, showing you everything including the SOAS Library, our very own on-site gallery The Brunei Gallery, our Students’ Union and so much more.

It’s also a great time to ask any questions you think of when exploring campus. There's no need to book, the times of the campus tours will be listed in the brochure you get when you arrive.

Attend a subject talk or taster session

We’ll have a number of subject talks taking place throughout the day. As well as talking to lecturers, these talks are another great way to find out more about the course you’re thinking of studying.

We’ll also be running a few taster sessions, in the past, these have included learning how to play instruments or learning a new language. So be sure to try some of those out!

Ask further questions

Along with lecturers and current students, we’ll have student support and recruitment staff available to answer further questions you may have. They’ll be able to cover accommodation, well-being, finance, accessibility, and more.
