Biography
West African sculpture, masquerade and textile history; and developments in sub-Saharan visual practice since the mid-19th century.
Research interests
Disciplinary problems in the history and sociology of art; the visual culture of Africa and the diaspora; the art and archaeology of Nigeria; Yoruba and Benin sculpture; Ebira, northern Edo and Niger-Benue confluence cultures; textiles, masquerade, painting; Protection of antiquities; history and anthropology of visual arts; the legitimate development of art collections for museums; current and past traditions of visual practice in the contexts of cultural, ethnic, political and national identities.
