About this event

SOAS History Seminar

To launch the SOAS History Seminar 2025/26, we’re hosting a roundtable with SOAS historians reflecting on their research journeys and the questions inspiring them today.

Framed as an open, conversational exchange, the panel will touch on the work of historians at large, and the special character and challenges of studying non-Western histories at SOAS. The session provides a chance for history students and staff, within SOAS and beyond, to come together at the start of a new academic year.

New doctoral students and staff are particularly welcome. The session will be followed by informal drinks and nibbles, courtesy of the School of History, Religions and Philosophies.

The panel comprises Dr Esteban Salas (historian of Africa), Dr Lars Laamann (historian of China), Dr Kathryn Dyt (historian of Vietnam) and Dr Eleanor Newbigin (historian of modern South Asia) and will be chaired by Dr Roy Fischel, Director of Doctoral Studies in the School of History, Religion and Philosophy.
