Inbound students: study abroad

Broaden your university studies by spending a semester or year at SOAS University of London. 

Add to your current studies or explore an entirely new area of interest by building modules from across our departments. Take the credit back to your home institution, along with memories of your time spent in London.

• Duration: Semester 1 or 2 only, or a full academic year.
• Attendance mode: full time (4 modules per semester).
• Start of programme: September 2025 (Semester 1) or January 2026 (Semester 2).
• Application deadline: 30 June 2025 for Semester 1, and 15 October 2025 for Semester 2.

Semester-only students can apply for a semester-long contract to stay at Dinwiddy House. Full Year students can apply for accommodation at any undergraduate or postgraduate halls depending on their scheme.

There are slight variations to the academic calendar depending on the duration of your study abroad/exchange programme. 

Semester 1 students join from the first day of Welcome Week until the last teaching day before Christmas. Semester 2 students join a week before the start of Semester 2. Full Year students follow the full academic calendar

Overseas fees for Study Abroad students

Fees cover:

• academic tuition
• examinations and assessment
• use of the library
• membership of the Students' Union

Fees do not cover:

• accommodation
• living expenses
