International funding
Loans for international students will vary in terms of their application process and your eligibility.
The Fees and Funding team can answer queries about tuition fee payment methods, instalment plans, SOAS administered bursaries, scholarships, US Federal Loans and any type of Private Loans.
US Federal Loans, VA Benefits and Private Loans
SOAS participates in the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan Program (Direct Loans). Learn more about the loan and application process.
Private education loans
Some SOAS students may prefer to use Sallie Mae Student Loans and Earnest Loans. We ask that students taking this option send details of the lender and loan required to funding@soas.ac.uk well in advance of the start of term so that the loan can be certified.
Veterans Affairs Funding and the Post 911 GI Bill
US Veterans attending SOAS can funds from the Department of Veterans Affairs for on campus degrees only but this funding is very limited. You can find a list of our current programmes on the VA Benefits website, via their search tool. If your programme is not listed then you will need to consider alternative funding methods.

Canadian Federal and Provincial educational loans
If you’re applying for loans, the code for SOAS is ‘PPDV’. If you require confirmation of the fees you have paid, or the completion of Program Information or Confirmation of Enrolment forms, please email your form to fees@soas.ac.uk, quoting your SOAS ID.
If you are unable to find us under 'SOAS', please try inputting 'School of Oriental and African Studies - University of London'
Funding from Swedish, Norwegian, and Danish governments
If you have paperwork that requires confirmation you've paid your fees, please email the form to fees@soas.ac.uk quoting your SOAS ID. This includes CSN study assurance forms and Lånekassen form C.
