Centre of South East Asian Studies

Overview

Since its founding in 1966, the Centre of South East Asian Studies (CSEAS) has stood at the forefront of global scholarship on the region.

We are home to a vibrant community of scholars dedicated to stimulating research and fostering intellectual exchange. Our lecture series, seminars, and events bring together leading voices from across the UK, South East Asia, and beyond, promoting interdisciplinary dialogue and collaborative inquiry.

CSEAS maintains enduring partnerships with universities across South East Asia and maintains close ties with international organisations such as the Association of Southeast Asian Studies and the European Association for Southeast Asian Studies

We welcome visiting scholars, research initiatives, and funded projects. For enquiries, please contact us at centres@soas.ac.uk.

The Centre of South East Asian Studies builds on SOAS’s world leading expertise on the region. It provides a forum for scholars and students alike to consider the rich historical, cultural and linguistic diversity of South East Asia while also engaging with today’s most pressing contemporary issues, be they political, economic or environmental.
