Biography

Hasan Pandor is an editor, researcher, proofreader, examiner and former language instructor.

He joined SOAS in 2019 to work as a research assistant on the MHCLG-funded Universities and Muslim Seminaries Project (2019 to 2021) and then on the AHRC-funded New everyday practices of free speech on campus: Beyond racialised and religious stereotypes project (2021 to 2024). Between these, he joined the ICOP team in 2020, where he has been the lead editor and HR coordinator and involved in the secretariat for the Communities of Inquiry All-Party Parliamentary Group (CofI APPG), founded in 2022. 

In 2026, alongside his Influencing the Corridors of Power project (ICOP) work, he was appointed project manager for the HEIF-funded project to integrate Communities of Inquiry into the University of Cambridge Enterprise-funded legal-tech platform Actsure; Actsure and Communities of Inquiry enable universities to resolve free speech issues in line with the Higher Education (Freedom of Speech) Act 2023 and Office for Students Regulatory Advice 24.

In 2025, he co-edited How to Develop Free Speech on Campus: international Controversies and Communities of Inquiry (with Professor Alison Scott-Baumann), and is the lead author of the St George's House report Democracy and Free Speech on Campus: theory and Practice (2026) (with Professor Alison Scott-Baumann and Duaa Jamal Karim). He also worked as a researcher and copy editor for Paul Ricoeur: empowering Education, Politics and Society (2023) and has co-authored numerous articles, book chapters, briefings and reports.
