About this event
The Centre of African Studies at SOAS is excited to co-host this symposium that will engages with dialogues on what it means to decolonize the African and Black material cultures, embodied heritages, and extractive industry legacies.
This is part of two-part UK symposium follows on from The Black Dialogue 2.0 Series in the Netherlands at University of Amsterdam Black History Department, by engaging with dialogues on what it means to decolonize the African and Black material cultures, embodied heritages, and extractive industry legacies that shape and are shaped by the ongoing and intertwined entanglements between Africa and Europe.
The programme includes structured panel dialogues, artistic presentations, and audience contributions.
Taking inspiration from traditional African forms of engagement such as palace gatherings and village assemblies, the African Dialogues 1.0 Symposium explores contemporary global issues relevant to Africa, the African and Black diasporas.
Through three thematic panels, we examine the colonial and postcolonial dynamics of natural resources extractivism, cultural expression, higher education, proposing strategies for greater equilibrium in Afropean partnerships across academia, cultural institutions, and global societies.
