About this event

This event explores how historians at Chatham House and the Institute for International Political Studies (ISPI) in Milan played key roles in the development of International Relations studies and the establishment of international affairs think tanks during the 20th century.

By examining their work and influence, the talk reflects on what can be learned (or not) from this historical experience, how historical thinking can be fostered within international affairs institutions, and the broader value of history for international thinking in the present.

It also considers how historical perspectives can deepen our understanding of diplomacy, its practices, assumptions, and evolving role in global politics.

This event is part of the Centre for International Studies and Diplomacy’s 'New Frontiers in Diplomacy Seminar' (DiploSem) series.
