Nese Oztimur holds Sociology BA degree from the Middle East Technical University (METU-Ankara, Turkey) and MA and Ph.D. degrees at Political Science and Sociology from Bilkent University (Ankara, Turkey) and has been a post-doctoral scholar at the University of Michigan, Institute for Research on Women and Gender.
She has been teaching and supervising undergraduate and graduate students at the several universities in Turkey for over 20 years. Spanning sociology, politics, and ethnography her research interests include political theory, gender studies, urban sociology, migration, city governance and critical theories of urban space.
As a researcher consultant and advisor, she has been directing interdisciplinary projects comprising "urban development", "city governance, inclusion, and right to the city", "migration, ethnicity and gender" by focusing on Turkey . Her current work is on the “Art, Refugees and Changing Boundaries of Politics” by researching the art projects and events for and from the refugees all around Europe.
