Research interests
My research focusses on the music of the Eastern Mediterranean, with particular reference to Cyprus. I am interested in the effect of ideology on music discourse and performance, a topic I dealt with in my PhD thesis (SOAS 2008).
I am also interested in the use of voice and vocal improvisation in musical cultures of the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East. A further area of research is life writing, and particularly the intersection of biography and autobiography with music ethnography.
