Biography

Dr Pacheco Pardo is a Professor in International Relations at King's College London and KF-VUB Korea Chair at Vrije Universiteit Brussel. He holds a PhD in International Relations form the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). Before he completed an MA in International Relations at the University of New South Wales and a BSc (Honours) in Journalism at the Complutense University in Madrid. 

He also is Committee Member at CSCAP EU and a research associate at LSE IDEAS, the Lau China Institute and the Global Studies Institute in Hong Kong. 

He has held visiting positions at Korea University, the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy and Melbourne University. 

Dr Pacheco Pardo has been editor of Millennium: Journal of International Studies and sits on the editorial board of East Asia: An International Quarterly and Global Studies Journal. 

Prior to joining King’s he taught at the LSE, Queen Mary University of London and Oxford Brookes University.

Dr Pacheco Pardo is currently working on three research projects. The first project focuses on East Asia’s financial regionalism post-Global Financial Crisis. The project examines the evolving role of the CMIM and AMRO in the development of a regional financial safety net among ASEAN+3 countries, as well as the relationship between this regional mechanism and global institutions. 

The second research project Dr Pacheco Pardo is currently working centres on financial liberalisation. Using quantitative methodology, the project examines the reasons why countries take the decision to open their capital accounts and whether financial crises are the result of particular reasons for opening up. 

The final research project Dr Pacheco Pardo is working on examines contemporary European views of China. Funded by a grant from Tsinghua University Scientific Research Development, this collaborative project examines how European elites and media perceive China as an international actor.
