A new lecture series to celebrate our academic expertise and the impact of our research begins at SOAS University of London this month.

Rebecca Ruth Gould, currently Professor, Islamic World and Comparative Literature, at the University of Birmingham, will join SOAS University of London as a Distinguished Research Professor of Comparative Poetics and Global Politics  in the School of Languages, Cultures and Linguistics

Fareda Banda, Professor of Law at SOAS University of London, is Chair of the first all-woman judging panel for this year's Caine Prize for African Writing.

2021 Nobel Prize winner for Literature and Tanzanian novelist Abdulrazak Gurnah will deliver the keynote speech at the SOAS BARAZA Swahili studies conference on 29 October 2022.  

Taking place 7-8 September, the inaugural conference of Carceral Policy, Policing and Race will explore the varying realities and meanings of carcerality around the world, and will ask how these realities have been shaped by histories of colonialism and slavery. 

The Ebony Initiative is a new initiative at SOAS that aims to encourage and nurture Black scholars to pursue research careers and postgraduate education. The programme seeks to increase the pipeline of Black scholars progressing to PGT and PGR degrees and academic positions in UK HE.

T’ung Ping-cheng truly cared for people. He was sociable but not brash, had humility but was never obsequious, had certainties in his views but never sought to force them on others.  He was a lovely man, a pleasure to work with and a privilege to have known.
