Hardship funds
Overview
SOAS Hardship Funds are designed to provide short-term financial assistance for temporary hardship.
We have a range of funds that support SOAS students in different situations; however, the SOAS Hardship Fund cannot help with paying tuition fees.
SOAS Student Advice Service provide free, confidential advice about issues relating to UK Student Finance loans, financial hardship, budgeting, welfare benefits and other financial matters. Contact them if you need advice about your circumstances.

Eligibility
You must be studying a part-time or full-time on-campus programme to apply to the fund. Specific hardship funds may have further eligibility criteria. Applicants must be able to demonstrate they made realistic provision at the start of the programme to fund both the tuition fees and living costs for the duration of their programme. This is explained further in our guidance.
How to apply
Read our SOAS Hardship Fund Guidance (PDF, 165KB) to ensure you are eligible to apply for the fund and how you can demonstrate you made realistic financial provision at the start of your course. If eligible, you must complete the online application form and upload your supporting evidence, then submit the application. There is one form for applying to all of the available funds.
Deadline and processing times
Applications are normally processed within 4 weeks, assuming all required evidence is submitted within your application. You will be contacted by email with the outcome of your application or if we require further evidence.
