Results Day didn't go to plan? Here's how SOAS Clearing works
Marjaan gives her tips for when A-level Results Day doesn't go as planned and you want to take a different route.
A-level Results Day does not always go as expected. If you end up with lower grades than expected, get rejected by your university, or get better grades and are looking to apply to another university, that is exactly what clearing is for.
Clearing allows students to make another university application on the day they get their results (or up to a week or two after, depending on available spaces). This page will tell you exactly what you need to do if you need to make a Clearing application.
What you need before Results Day
- Your preference list of universities, their Clearing contact number, and your UCAS ID number ready. You will only be able to make one application at a time, so make sure you know the exact details of the course you are interested in. The call is not an opportunity to decide what you want to study. If you don’t know what you want to apply for, you will be asked to call again later
Call the university you want to apply to via Clearing
- They will ask for the course you want to apply for and your grades. If you meet their grade requirements, they will ask for some further personal details. If you do not meet their requirements, they may suggest another course or for you to call another university on your list.
When you submit your application over the phone
- Please keep an eye on your email in case they ask for more details. If you have been made an offer, you will need to add your offer to your UCAS page to finalise the offer.
Remember that Clearing places are filled on a first-come, first-served basis, so make sure you are ready on Results Day.
