Biography

Cate is a PhD candidate in the Department of Development Studies. She holds a BA African Studies and MSc in Violence, Conflict and Development from SOAS, and has 10 years of combined working background in both development and humanitarian sectors, primarily in southern and eastern Africa.

Her research is on South Sudan, with fieldwork conducted from northern Uganda, and near the borders with South Sudan and DRC. Alongside her PhD, Cate has held GTA and research roles across departments at SOAS, convened the winter course on Peace and Conflict Resolution, and is an Associate Tutor of the Humanitarian Principles and Practice module.
