Biography
Daniela is a trained medical doctor and psychologist. Before moving to the United Kingdom, she worked extensively within Brazil’s Unified Health System (SUS), primarily as a Family and Community physician in rural and underserved areas.
She has been consistently involved in research projects in the fields of mental health and psychiatric reform, having published papers, won awards and presented at various academic events. In 2023, Daniela relocated to Oxford to undertake a two-year MPhil in Medical Anthropology at the University of Oxford, from which she graduated with Distinction. Her MPhil thesis examined emerging forms of life in Petrópolis, Brazil – a city increasingly affected by floods and landslides – focusing on lived temporalities of destruction, care, and repair.
Her current PhD project builds directly on the research she initiated during her MPhil, now with a more explicit emphasis on mental health, it seeks to comprehend experiences of distress and survival in a context of social and environmental change. Daniela’s PhD is funded by the Centre of Anthropology and Mental Health Research in Action (CAMHRA).
