This event will launch the publication of the groundbreaking edited collection by Palgrave Macmillan, Sinophonecene?: Tracing Environmental and Cohabitational Perspectives in Contemporary Chinese Art.
The collection, edited by Franziska Koch, Nora Wölfing, and Cila Brosius, 'traces the intersections between the growing controversies revolving around the Anthropocene on the one hand, and artistic and curatorial practices situated in the Sinophone world on the other.' The launch will feature discussion of the collection by its editors moderated by Paul Gladston, UNSW Judith Neilson Chair Professor of Contemporary Art.

About the speakers
Franziska KOCH, Dr. phil. habil., is senior lecturer (akademische Oberrätin) in the fields of art history and transcultural studies at Heinrich-Heine-Universität Düsseldorf, Germany. Her research interests include modern and contemporary art across East Asia, Europe and North America, questions of collaboration and authorship, the exhibition as a medium, Fluxus, transcultural, post-colonial, decolonial, and gender theoretical perspectives in the arts, and reflections about the Anthropocene in the field of visual culture.
Nora Wölfing is an art historian and sinologist who works as a researcher, writer, and curator specializing in contemporary art from the Sinophone region. She is pursuing her PhD at the Free University of Berlin and is an affiliated researcher at the GRK East Asian Futures at Ruhr University Bochum. She holds the Elsa-Neumann scholarship of the State of Berlin for her research, in which she focuses on narrative theories in media arts, including modes of spatial narration, questions of temporality and futurity, transcultural theories, feminism(s), and literature-based art.
Cila Brosius is a German-American curator based in Copenhagen, Denmark. Her practice is informed by a BA in East Asian Studies from the University of Heidelberg, and an MA in Visual Arts Administration from New York University. She has worked in a variety of arts organisations as a curator, writer, proofreader, translator, digital platform manager, and art business coach. She is particularly interested in fostering dialogue through exhibitions, artist talks, and other art-related events that bridge contemporary artistic practice across disciplinary, cultural, and geographical divides. Brosius is the co-founder of Three Points, a contemporary art platform that aims to create dialogue through unexpected juxtapositions with a focus on artists from China, Cuba, and the former Yugoslavia.
Paul Gladston is the inaugural UNSW Judith Neilson Chair Professor of Contemporary Art. He was previously Chair Professor of Contemporary Visual Cultures and Critical Theory at the University of Nottingham UK and Head of the School of International Communications at the University of Nottingham Ningbo, China. His book length publications include Contemporary Chinese Art: A Critical History (Reaktion 2014), which received ‘Best Publication’ at the Awards of Art, China (2015), and Contemporary Chinese Art, Aesthetic Modernity and Zhang Peili: Towards a Critical Contemporaneity (Bloomsbury 2019).
Hua Bai (白桦) serves as Senior Commissioning Editor for the Humanities and Social Sciences portfolio across the APAC Region at Palgrave Macmillan (Springer Nature). She holds dual bachelors degrees in English and Industrial Engineering, a masters in Manufacturing Engineering, and a PhD in Management Science, specialising in human-behaviour research.
