About this event

The Centre of Taiwan Studies is delighted to welcome Dr Hsin-I Sydney Yueh to give a book talk on Resistance in the Era of Nationalisms, reflecting on the book’s key themes and the process of co-editing the volume.

Resistance in the Era of Nationalisms: Performing Identities in Taiwan and Hong Kong brings together eight essays that explore how people in Taiwan and Hong Kong practice democratic self-rule, articulate their local identities, and position themselves as global citizens amid the geopolitical tensions between China and the United States.

Alongside an epilogue featuring an interview with Audrey Tang, the chapters examine topics ranging from the rhetoric of political leaders and the language games of mass protesters on social media to forms of resistant street performance. Co-editor Hsin-I Sydney Yueh will talk about these varied expressions of resistance and reflect on the process of creating this book.
