About this event

The SOAS Summer School is for students in Year 10 attending state schools.

The summer school will be taking place on the SOAS campus from Monday 22 to Friday 26 June 2026 and will run from 10:00am to 3:00pm each day.

During the summer school participants will experience a mixture of activities, including interactive lectures delivered by academics, study skills and higher education sessions as well as access to resources and materials. Students will also have a live Q&A with alumni and current SOAS students and will complete a group project with peers, supported by SOAS Student Ambassadors.

As part of the summer school, participants will choose from one of the three following pathways:

  • Time traveler's trail: uncover the past, ponder the present and forge the future.
  • Justice and creativity expedition: where art meets justice and change begins.
  • Culture and power voyage: embark on a journey of cultural exploration, political insight and financial literacy.

How to apply

There are two separate application routes. Pupils can submit individual applications, or schools can submit group applications.

The deadline for all applications is 9:00am on Friday 1 May 2026.

Individual pupil applications

If pupils attend the summer school as an individual application, they will make their own way to and from campus each day. Permission from parent/guardians and their school is required for students to take part.

As part of the application process, pupils will select their preferred pathway (this is not guaranteed but we will try our best to allocate applicants to their preference). Pupils will also be asked to write a short personal statement about why they would like to take part in the programme.

For this application route, please submit applications using the SOAS Year 10 Summer School individual pupil application form.

School group applications

If a school applies to bring a group of students to the summer school, the school is responsible for students making their way to and from campus each day. School staff must remain on campus for the duration of the programme and be responsible for ascertaining parent/guardian permissions for pupils taking part.

For this application route, please submit applications using the SOAS Year 10 Summer School group application form.

Widening participation

The summer school is a widening participation activity designed to give students a first-class experience of study at HE level. It is free. Students who meet at least one of the following criteria will be prioritised:

  • eligible or previously eligible for Free School Meals
  • experience of local authority care
  • from an area underrepresented in higher education (as measured by TUNDRA data)

If you have any questions, please contact Lauren (Access and Participation Officer) at lw29@soas.ac.uk.
